Doing housework is part of our life. How about middle school students? We do a survey it among 100 students. We can get some information from the survey. A few of students often do housework. Some students do housework sometimes. And most students never do housework. This result takes me by surprise. Maybe some students dislike to do housework or their parents don’t allow them to do housework.
It’s important for middle school students to do housework, like cleaning, cooking dinner, collecting and washing the dishes or even washing the clothes. If you often cook a meal or clean the garden, you can do better in school— like schoolwork or problem solving.
Doing housework not only teaches you life skills but also makes you responsible for being a part of a family. It’ll help you make better decisions and build confidence. Doing housework can also improve your abilities to work in the future and make you successful.
As a middle school student, it is time for you to do more housework and learn to be independent. Those skills will help you all your life.

Recently, you may have seen a lot of expressions like the above online. It is the latest popular style called “roaring genre”. It has short sentences, a complaining tone and a lot of exclamation marks.
Internet users say the style is just a way of letting out emotions, and in fact, it shows an active attitude towards life. But, at first, many of us think people who speak this way are quite angry. Sometimes we may feel afraid of the tone and the exclamation marks.
Why? Because on the Internet, we can’t see the face of a person when he or she posts a message. We can only guess if that person is happy or angry. And we could be wrong.
There are rules of behavior to follow when you’re online. It is important to remember that you are dealing with “real” people. So you should use the best manners —just like you would at home or in school.
For example, when you chat in English with someone online, you shouldn’t type in all capital letters, because this means you are shouting. It can easily upset people, even if you don’t do it on purpose. You can use asterisks, like *this* or lines, like _this_, to emphasize a word. Or, you can use emoticons to tell the person what you’re feeling.
Also, it is not polite to use short forms unless you are talking to your good friends. For example, use “see you later”, instead of “CU L8er”.

Many kids help their parents to do chores such as washing the dishes, cleaning the floors and taking out the rubbish in the house. And some kids get money or other rewards from their parents, such as playing computer games for 20 minutes.
But some people do not think that kids should get rewards for doing chores. One of them is Susie Walton, a parenting educator. She believes that if kids get rewards, they will think that work isn’t worth(值得) doing unless they can get something. For example, kids won’t sweep the floor if they see it is dirty. But they will clean the floor if their parents reward them for it. Susie said, “A home is a living place for everyone in the family. It’s important for kids to see that it’s all the family members’ job to keep their homes clean.”
Other people have different opinions(观点). They believe that money or other rewards can encourage(鼓励) kids to do more chores. It also teaches them real world lessons that we need to work to make money. Now, there are also apps that encourage kids to do chores. The apps give kids points and gifts that can be used either online or in the real world. With the Chore Monster app, kids get points after doing chores. Kids can exchange(交换) their points for real rewards, such as time to play video games or a trip to the mall.
What do you think? Should kids be rewarded for doing chores? Or should kids help out with their homes without getting anything?
